The BAE-Rafael Mark 38 Mod.2 close in weapon system is a remote controlled 25mm gun station commonly found in US Navy ships. It was designed to protect the ship from incoming close range small fast surface and slow aerial threats.
Each gun is controlled of separate EO system that allows the gun to operate in day and night in all weather condition. The gun is controlled by console with its own video feed screen.
The modern ship for the Philippine navy will be a big boost for the navy fleet which had been suffered the reputation of being among the most poorly equipped in South East Asia.
BRP Ramon Alcaraz was commissioned last Nov. 22 at Manila South Harbor. It is the second former US Coast guard Hamilton Class-cutter commissioned into the Philippine Navy Fleet.
